MURMO Psychotherapeutic Expert Team
A psychotherapeutic expert team is a group of professionals who work together to provide comprehensive support for individuals struggling with psychological difficulties. When functioning well, such a team resembles a well-coordinated orchestra, where each instrument (therapist) plays a different melody (specialization), yet the final result is a harmonious symphony serving the patient’s healing process. Every orchestra (team) changes slightly from year to year, while still forming one coherent unit. What makes such a team truly effective is that its members come from different professional backgrounds, enabling them to approach the patient’s difficulties as comprehensively as possible. This is what we have been striving to accomplish as we now complete our 10th academic year.
Our team consists of psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychotherapists (specialists in various psychotherapeutic methods such as dynamic therapy, family therapy, symbol therapy, play therapy, art therapy, sandplay therapy, MBT-A, TFP-A, etc.), psychologists, special education professionals working with children, developmental educators, and specialists from other specific fields. In addition to the members of our diagnostic team, our volunteers and mentors are also invaluable supporters, and we are deeply grateful for them.
Our team does not focus only on the patient’s “illness,” but rather sees the whole person, including their physical, emotional, and social dimensions. Our goal is not only symptom reduction, but also helping patients live fuller and more balanced lives. Achieving this is often a demanding and emotionally challenging process for children, adolescents, and their families alike.
Team members meet regularly (in our case, three delegated team meetings per week, daily 30-minute consultation periods, and additional written notes) to discuss cases while maintaining patient anonymity, share experiences, and jointly develop treatment strategies. This process is called case discussion. Supervision is also an essential component, where a more experienced professional supports team members in reflecting on and developing their work. This ensures high professional standards and continuous learning.
The foundation of our team is open and effective communication. Members do not work in isolation, but continuously exchange information regarding the patient’s condition, therapeutic progress, and possible difficulties. This coordinated approach ensures that patients receive the most appropriate care while avoiding parallel or contradictory treatments. Such work can never happen quickly or abruptly.
The advantage of a multidisciplinary team is its ability to create individualized and comprehensive treatment plans tailored to the patient’s specific needs. One person may require medication and individual therapy, while another may benefit from group therapy and social support. The team jointly decides on the most optimal path.
Members of a psychotherapeutic expert team are highly trained and experienced professionals who continuously educate themselves to remain up to date with the latest research findings and therapeutic approaches.
With this supportive and secure network, we have continued this academic year to work intensively, operating at the intersection of the private and civil sectors, to support the mental health of children and young people through collaboration.
