Our Therapeutic Approaches

Individual Therapies

Autogenic Training

Through autogenic training, we learn to create a relaxed state that supports physical, emotional and mental harmony.

Autogenic Training Autogenic training, or AT for short, is a relaxation method through which we learn to create a deeply relaxed state, helping to restore physical, emotional, and mental balance. By practising the exercises, we can support the body’s natural self-regulating processes and immune function, while also improving concentration. The method may help reduce inner tension and anxiety. Autogenic training is usually learned over 15 weeks, with weekly sessions. To help the relaxation response become increasingly automatic over time, we recommend practising twice a day. The method can be learned individually or in a group setting, and relaxation sessions are also available for children. It may be recommended for a range of difficulties, including panic, anxiety, phobias, headaches, insomnia, asthma, blood pressure problems, or a highly stressful lifestyle.

Family Therapy

Individual problems and psychological difficulties can often be understood more clearly and addressed more effectively when family members participate in the therapeutic process together.

Family Therapy Individual problems and psychological difficulties can often be understood more clearly and addressed more effectively when the person concerned participates in therapy together with members of their family. During the shared therapeutic process, the family’s structure, relationships, interactions and communication patterns become more visible. Where necessary, these patterns can then be consciously reshaped and changed. By building on the family’s existing strengths and resources, the therapists actively support the changes needed to restore balance within the family. The aim is to reduce patterns that no longer work or continue to maintain difficulties, and to develop new ways of relating and behaving that support emotional well-being.

Dynamic Play Therapy

Children primarily communicate through actions, play and imagination, using them to express their inner conflicts, fears and the situations that occupy their thoughts.

Gyermekterápia Children primarily communicate through actions, play and imagination. They naturally work through their inner conflicts by acting out situations that concern them, drawing their fears and expressing themselves in similar ways. The child therapist supports children in this process and encourages free self-expression, helping them explore the deeper meaning of their play and imagination and how these relate to their symptoms and anxieties. We provide a safe and empathic environment in which fears, anger and other difficult emotions can emerge, even when they place a heavy emotional burden on very young children. We support children in finding their own ways of coping with difficult emotions. We believe that experiencing their own effectiveness is important, as it can later help them face life’s difficulties with confidence and creativity. In child therapy, we consider an open and committed working alliance with the parents essential, as they are the primary experts on their own child. We use our professional knowledge and empathy to broaden the range of experiences and patterns that can be explored, but this is only possible with the parents’ support and cooperation.

Psychodynamically Oriented Therapy

A form of therapy that supports the understanding and processing of deeper connections within emotional and psychological functioning.

Drama Therapy Methods

Drama therapy, also known as theatre-based therapy, uses metaphors and theatrical methods to reach aspects of emotional experience that are often difficult to express verbally.

In drama therapy, also known as theatre-based therapy, we use metaphors and theatrical methods to reach aspects of emotional experience that are often difficult to express verbally. Methods may include improvisation, theatre games, role-play, puppet making, puppetry, mask making, pantomime, dance and singing.

Individual Counseling and Consultation

When someone feels stuck in a particular life situation, long-term therapy may not be necessary. It may be enough for a psychologically healthy person to receive support in strengthening their decision-making abilities, recognizing and managing their roles in life, adapting to change, resolving crises or difficult situations effectively and reducing inner tension.

Counseling may be recommended during crises, family or relationship problems, difficulties in managing everyday life, workplace or career decisions, or periods of rehabilitation. A counselor can provide support for both individuals and groups.

Relaxation for Children

Children often find it more difficult than adults to recognize and express emotional difficulties, which may therefore emerge as physical symptoms.

Children often find it more difficult than adults to recognize and express emotional difficulties, which may therefore emerge as physical symptoms. Learning relaxation methods that help release physical tension can provide valuable support and may also help resolve emotional difficulties. Relaxation may improve hyperactivity, anxiety symptoms, sleep problems, behavioral difficulties, concentration problems and learning difficulties, while also providing children with a pleasant and positive experience. For younger children, relaxation takes place playfully in the presence of a parent. We use the messages and symbolic world of stories, together with the creative power of imagination, complemented by play, drawing and painting. Young children can also practice with their parents at home, creating an opportunity to share a calm and intimate experience of letting go. With adolescents, we work without the parents and use methods very similar to those used with adults.

Integrative Child Therapy

A child therapy approach that combines several therapeutic methods and adapts them to the child’s individual needs.

Jakab Family Art Therapy

This three-session, video-recorded family therapy group is recommended for families who would like to explore the difficulties of one or more children by gaining a deeper understanding of family dynamics.

This three-session, video-recorded family therapy group is recommended for families who would like to explore the difficulties of one or more children by gaining a deeper understanding of family dynamics. During the sessions, family members create images both together and individually. Selected parts of the recorded video material are then discussed together. In addition to its diagnostic value, interpreting the individual and group artworks can also have a therapeutic effect.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy explores the relationships between thoughts, emotions and behavior.

Therapeutic Storytelling

During therapeutic storytelling, the therapist identifies the main themes in the introductory phase of therapy and uses them to select or create a suitable story for the client.

During therapeutic storytelling, the therapist identifies the main themes in the introductory phase of therapy and uses them to select or create a suitable story for the client. The story is explored on several levels, including words, sounds and movement. This method can be particularly helpful for people who feel stuck with their questions, trapped in recurring patterns or overwhelmed by hopelessness or anger in their everyday lives. This form of storytelling therapy works with metaphors and symbols, drawing on their healing and corrective potential. We use it in both individual and group settings, primarily as part of a broader therapeutic process.

Art Therapy

Art therapy provides opportunities to communicate themes, emotions and moods; process disturbing memories and situations nonverbally; and express inner experiences, dynamics, unconscious wishes and impulses.

Art therapy provides opportunities to communicate themes, emotions and moods; process disturbing memories and situations nonverbally; and express inner experiences, dynamics, unconscious wishes and impulses. In the treatment of psychological disorders, it can support the processing of emotional experiences, the reorganization of internal psychological structures and changes in defensive mechanisms and internal relationship patterns. For children, drawing is part of play and a natural form of self-expression. Because their verbal expression is still developing, nonverbal methods such as drawing, music and dance may be more suitable for expressing fears and difficulties.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy is a specialized form of family therapy that focuses on the relationship between two people.

Couples therapy is a specialized form of family therapy that focuses on the relationship between two people. Both partners attend the sessions, and the therapists actively support them in exploring relationship patterns, conflicts and difficulties, identifying possible changes and modifying fixed communication patterns. Therapy takes place in a safe environment where any concern can be expressed and brought into the open. The aim is to improve the functioning of the relationship, deepen mutual understanding and create more open communication.

SEE FAR CBT

See Far CBT is a phase-oriented trauma treatment protocol that incorporates findings from the latest neuropsychological research.

See Far CBT is a phase-oriented trauma treatment protocol that incorporates findings from the latest neuropsychological research. It uses techniques focusing on bodily memories, imagination and visualization, as well as selected elements of cognitive behavioral therapy. The number of sessions depends on the client’s condition, and the method is primarily used in individual therapy. With the help of focal points identified in the body and created within a transitional space, the traumatic experience can be integrated into a new narrative.

Symbol Therapy

Symbol therapy uses thematic inner images to activate and transform deep psychological structures.

Symbol therapy uses thematic inner images to activate and transform deep psychological structures. In a relaxed and altered state of consciousness, we visualize images that may bring forward memories, fragments of memories and experiences stored in unconscious layers. The images are always processed at a level that the person’s current emotional state can safely tolerate. Activating the healthy and resilient parts of the psyche remains central throughout symbol therapy and supports more effective and harmonious functioning in everyday life.

Relaxation for Expectant Mothers

By learning autogenic training exercises and relaxing our muscles, we can experience physical and emotional calm.

By learning autogenic training exercises and relaxing our muscles, we can experience physical and emotional calm. During the sessions, we reflect on the period of pregnancy, its background, the expectant mother’s current condition and questions related to femininity and motherhood. We prepare for childbirth and the emotional experiences of the postpartum period. We work through situations that may cause difficulties and support the development of inner physical and emotional harmony. The program is recommended for expectant mothers who have already given birth or are expecting their first child and are in the first trimester of pregnancy. It is also possible to join at a later stage of pregnancy, in which case a specialized program is developed. By the end of the process, sleep patterns may become more regulated, the functioning of body and mind more harmonious and immune functioning more effective. It becomes easier to create a calm, relaxed state and maintain a regular breathing rhythm both in everyday life and during childbirth. The mother can begin connecting with her child during pregnancy and learn to direct her attention inward, supporting emotional attunement between them.

MBT-A

Mentalization-Based Treatment for Adolescents, or MBT-A, supports young people experiencing self-harm, severe mood disorders, impulsivity or relationship difficulties.

Mentalization-Based Treatment for Adolescents (MBT-A) supports young people who struggle with self-harm, severe mood difficulties, impulsivity, or relationship problems. The approach focuses on developing the ability to understand one’s own and others’ internal states, including feelings, intentions, and thoughts. The therapy consists of weekly individual sessions and has been shown to reduce self-harm and depressive symptoms in adolescence (Rossouw & Fonagy, 2012).

TFP-A

Transference-Focused Psychotherapy for Adolescents provides structured, psychoanalytically based treatment for young people experiencing severe personality-related difficulties, identity disturbance, emotional instability or significant relational trauma.

Transference-Focused Psychotherapy for Adolescents, or TFP-A, provides structured, psychoanalytically based treatment for young people experiencing severe personality-related difficulties, identity disturbance, emotional instability or significant relational trauma. The method focuses on patterns that emerge within the therapeutic relationship and helps the young person develop a more integrated and stable understanding of themselves and the people around them.

MBT-F

MBT-F applies the principles of mentalization to family relationships and is most commonly used alongside individual MBT-A therapy.

MBT-F applies the principles of mentalization to family relationships and is most commonly used alongside individual MBT-A therapy. Its aim is to help both parents and adolescents understand one another’s perspectives, even in highly tense situations. Joint sessions help rebuild trust, reduce misunderstandings and create a safe family environment that supports the young person’s development.

Family Consultation

Family consultation is a brief and focused form of support that offers practical guidance rather than a long-term therapeutic process.

Family consultation is a brief and focused form of support that offers practical guidance rather than a long-term therapeutic process. It usually consists of one to three sessions and may be helpful when a family would like professional guidance regarding a specific difficulty, school change, divorce, bereavement, tensions related to adolescence or parenting dilemmas, without necessarily planning to begin regular therapy.

Music Therapy

The therapeutic use of music and sound supports emotional expression and connection.

We welcome applications from young adults who feel confused, frequently low in mood or excessively energized, sometimes without any apparent reason.

We welcome applications from young adults who feel confused, frequently low in mood or excessively energized, sometimes without any apparent reason. They may struggle to find their place in a community, have few or no friends, experience frequently changing relationships, and consequently feel lonely or excluded. No artistic experience or manual skill is required to participate. Over the course of 10–15 sessions, participants can discover the joy of playful creativity and appreciate the artworks they create. We use oil pastels, soft pastels, tempera, acrylic paint, pencils and many other materials that may not usually be associated with art, but can also support greater self-understanding. Start date: February 5–6, 2016. Facilitators: Erzsébet Katalin Komáromi and Erika Pap. Duration: 10 months, one weekend per month, on Friday and Saturday. On group days, sessions run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break.

Psychodynamically Oriented Therapy

Our relationship with our partner is one of the most important relationships in our lives, and its healthy functioning is essential to our well-being and emotional health.

Our relationship with our partner is one of the most important relationships in our lives, and its healthy functioning is essential to our well-being and emotional health. In symbol therapy for couples, both partners are present. Relaxing together, releasing tension and stress, and turning their attention inward can provide a new and positive shared experience. In a relaxed state, each partner visualizes their own inner images and then becomes familiar with the other person’s images. These images begin to resonate within both partners, creating a deeper and different quality of mutual understanding. Representing emotional content through imagery, exploring it together and uncovering its personal meaning leaves little room for arguments or criticism. Instead, it encourages deeper understanding and opens a path towards change. Transforming deep psychological structures can have a positive effect on how the relationship functions, while also helping it become deeper and richer.
