KOFFER – GROUP FOR PARENTS RAISING CHILDREN WITH ADHD

Format: Psychoeducational and support group for parents

Focus:
We welcome parents who are raising a child with ADHD and would like to better understand their child’s functioning and the background of everyday difficulties, and who would like to gain practical tools that can help family life, learning and relationships run more smoothly.

Methodology:
The group works in a psychoeducational and consultative format. During the sessions, we share up-to-date knowledge about ADHD, a neuro-affirmative approach and practical strategies that can be applied in everyday life. Thinking together and sharing experiences also give parents the opportunity to learn about similar situations, difficulties and proven solutions in other families.

Topics covered by the group include:

  • how ADHD develops and its main characteristics;
  • the specific features of attention, impulsivity and self-regulation;
  • the role of executive functions in everyday life;
  • motivational difficulties, emotion regulation and sensory characteristics;
  • practical tools for establishing daily schedules, rules and routines;
  • behaviour management and positive reinforcement techniques;
  • therapeutic and support options related to ADHD;
  • parental overload, self-regulation and co-regulation;
  • communication with children, teachers and professionals.

The programme consists of 3 thematic sessions and one additional session tailored to participants’ needs. The topic of the additional session is decided based on the group’s interests (e.g. adolescence, learning strategies, school support, the relationship between ADHD and autism).

Group leaders:
Judit Jantner – clinical psychologist, and Kamilla Kelemen – special education teacher

Maximum group size: 6–8 participants

We recommend the group to parents who would like to navigate their child’s ADHD-related needs with greater confidence and find tools that can also be used in their own family’s everyday life.
