ZABHEGYEZŐ – Creative Group for Out-of-School Teenagers

Zabhegyező (The Catcher in the Rye) is designed for teenagers who are currently not attending school, or are only able to attend a few classes due to mental health challenges. The group is not a replacement for school, nor is it therapy. Zabhegyező is a space to create, experiment, and simply be present. The program is tailored to the interests of the participants in terms of both themes and media. During the first session, we will jointly explore the techniques and topics that interest—or explicitly do not interest—the young people present. We will discuss whether there are artists they admire, and identify themes they would like to explore using artistic media.

The visual techniques adapt to the needs and topics of the group. Group leaders guide participants through various artistic mediums, leaving ample room for free experimentation.

Parental Framework & Boundaries

The group leader establishes an agreement regarding the creative space directly with the teenager. We do not work with parents within this space. Parents receive written information regarding the operational structure and attendance rules; however, they will not receive formal psychological evaluations or assessments of the youth. We do not send written summaries after sessions. If requested in agreement with the teenager, parent consultations can be provided, subject to therapist availability.

Reporting Protocols

  • In cases of acute risk or harm, mandatory reporting procedures will be initiated.
  • Referrals for hospital admission are made verbally.
  • If appropriate next-step options exist within the Murmo care system, we will provide specific recommendations upon request by the youth or their family.

Administration

  • Previous documentation and history must be submitted before the group starts.
  • Group descriptions, consent forms, and attendance records are processed according to Murmo’s standard procedures.
