Borbála Koltai

I am a special education teacher specialising in autism spectrum pedagogy and a family therapist in training.

Even during my special-education studies, I was primarily interested in how children with diverse neurodevelopmental profiles and their families could be supported comprehensively and from a systemic perspective. This led me to begin method-specific family-therapy training with the Hungarian Family Therapy Association; I am currently in the final stage before the qualifying examination.

I spent several years in research and completed my doctoral studies at the Doctoral School of Education at Eötvös Loránd University. My research explored the experiences of families of autistic adults, with particular attention to fathers. I also taught psychology, special education, and teacher-training students for several years as a visiting lecturer.

My professional work brings together special education and family therapy. I primarily work with couples, parents, and families in which autism or ADHD is present in the life of one or more family members.

My therapeutic aim is to make neurodevelopmental characteristics understandable in the context of family relationships and functioning. By integrating different approaches and techniques, clients and I explore the relational patterns that contribute to current difficulties. I see every family and couple as unique; lasting change grows not from ready-made solutions but from shared understanding, mobilisation of resources, and discovery of new ways of connecting.

At MURMO I provide parent guidance and consultation, couple and family therapy, family consultation, and autism-specific parent groups.

From September 2020 to August 2021 I was a recipient of the New National Excellence Programme scholarship.
