Neuropsychological assessment in children is most often carried out because of school-related learning difficulties, such as problems with attention, writing, reading, or mathematics. Another common reason for assessment \u2013 sometimes even well before school age \u2013 is a delay in cognitive functions or intellectual development, either in general or in specific areas (e.g., delayed language development).<\/p>\n
The goal of the neuropsychological diagnostic process is to develop a comprehensive clinical picture of the child or adult. Therefore, in addition to examining cognitive functions (perception, attention, executive functions, memory, language, writing, reading, and arithmetic skills), other processes such as motor regulation, action control, and emotional functioning are also assessed. The evaluation is conducted using neuropsychological assessment tools, including paper-and-pencil tests and computer-based software.<\/p>\n
By establishing a cognitive profile, we perform both qualitative and quantitative analyses of competencies, identifying preserved and impaired abilities, as well as skills and capacities that are delayed in development.<\/p>\n
A comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation typically consists of 1\u20135 sessions, each lasting approximately 45\u201350 minutes. During the first session (45\u201350 minutes), the individual\u2019s medical history and developmental background are reviewed, and in some cases a screening assessment is conducted. During the diagnostic phase, cognitive functions are examined using neuropsychological tests in either 45\u201350 minute or 90-minute sessions. The number of diagnostic sessions is flexible, as the assessment process is tailored to the individual needs of each person.<\/p>\n
