On October 19, we watched Fran\u00e7ois Ozon\u2019s film Double Lover<\/em> at Murmo, followed by
\nan in-depth discussion led by Dr. Amaryl \u00c1rkovits and Krisztina Dorn.<\/em> The event
\ntook place in Murmo\u2019s group room, where we watched the film together in a cozy atmosphere.
\nDouble Lover is typically the kind of film that leaves you scratching your head, wondering
\nexactly what is happening. Am I really seeing what I think I am? Is this actually happening? Is he imagining this, or is he dreaming? Where\u2019s
\nthe twist? Questions like these and others may race through your mind while watching. If I tried
\nto describe the story objectively, I certainly wouldn\u2019t succeed. A significant part of the plot
\ndepends entirely on how the viewer interprets what they see. We witnessed numerous shocking, surprising, and
\nunexpected scenes, and although opinions were certainly divided on whether
\nthe film counts as a \u201cgood movie,\u201d it certainly achieved one goal: it prompted
\na roomful of people to think and discuss. And that\u2019s not a bad result, even for a \u201cbad movie.\u201d
\nAfter the screening, it took some coaxing to shake off our silent shock; we took a short
\nbreak to enjoy the refreshments offered on-site, hoping to somewhat ease the intensity of the
\nemotions and thoughts swirling within us.
\nDuring the discussion that followed, the audience\u2014composed largely of professionals in the helping fields and
\npsychologists\u2014lived up to expectations. Hypotheses flew thick and fast about various maternal qualities,
\nthe distinction between psychotic states and reality, the interplay of mental and physical problems,
\nthe framework of the therapeutic relationship, the acknowledgment of needs, the meanings of the
\nsymbols used in the film, and, of course, the customary self-reflection could not be left out, as we also
\ndiscussed how the film affected each of us and what feelings it evoked in us. It became clear just how different
\nthe meanings and significance we attributed to certain scenes were; we discussed how
\nthe various elements could be interpreted, and this greatly broadened my perspective
\non the film. Personally, I would highly recommend such a discussion
\nto everyone at the end of any similar film, as the many different perspectives can offer a much more diverse and\u2014in my opinion\u2014
\nmore complete understanding.
\nThe discussion was followed by further pleasant conversation, eating, and drinking, thanks to which
\neveryone could let go of (or, if desired, continue to reflect on) this deeper shared
\ncontemplation. Once again, we can look back on a successful evening with a great atmosphere, which,
\nincidentally, also supported the Pro Juventa Foundation and, through it, the well-being of many children.
